So, you' ve been invited to a wedding or shower, and you are thrilled, but now you need to come up with an appropriate wedding gift. The easy, traditional answer would be just to check the registry, but often that is not the case. Perhaps the couple is not registered for gifts, or everything on the registry has already been purchased.
What if you cannot afford the items that are left on the registry or you simply want to be a little bit creative and give something from your heart rather than from a list? No matter what your reasons, there are many wonderful wedding gifts you can give that will be very much appreciated, as they are both thoughtful and practical.
One wedding gift that is both eye-catching and practical is the gift basket. Choose a pretty basket, or an appropriate vessel, and just pack it full of things that you think the young couple will need, but wouldn' t think of.
You can combine a few more expensive items, like small appliances or pots, with consumable items, like tea, food, or paper products. You may want to focus your basket on a specific theme. A large bucket filled with cleaning supplies or a picnic basket filled with food, napkins, and plastic ware would make a very memorable and useful wedding gift.
Going Beyond the Registry
Another idea for a wedding gift that is both inexpensive and extremely useful is a nice cookbook or recipe box. You can choose an appropriate book from one of the many lovely cookbooks available commercially, or create your own that is customized for the bride-to-be. Particularly for a daughter or granddaughter, you might want to write down the recipes for all of her favorite foods that you prepare.
You may also choose to collect a variety of recipes from several friends and loved ones. The book needn' t stop at recipes either. Many young couples would love to have a collection of cleaning, organization, and home maintenance tips available in one place.
Many couples today are choosing to register for intangible things, such as help in paying for their honeymoon or donations to charity, in lieu of more traditional wedding gifts. Check to see if your couple has any such wishes. Often, many young people would prefer to start out with fewer belongings, particularly if they don' t plan to live in the same place for long. While you may consider it crude to give cash, this is often preferred, particularly by people who are just starting out in life.
No matter what you choose to give, if you give with your heart and your mind, your gift will most likely be appreciated. Gift registries provide nice guidelines, but they should never be considered exclusive. Often the wedding gift that the bride least thought she' d need becomes her most treasured possession.
