Making and sending a holiday gift basket to family, friends, or colleagues is a unique pleasure. An artfully prepared gift basket can at once amuse and impress the recipient. But you can make your own holiday gift basket to cut expenses, to show your love and care for the recipient, as well as to enjoy the activity of gift basket preparation.

Making Your Own Holiday Gift Basket

Primarily, you have to use your creative faculty when starting your own holiday gift basket. Imagine what kind of a gift basket would you like to receive from your dearest one, and use this to come up with ideas of your own for a fancy holiday gift basket. Steps in Making a Gift Basket

1. First of all choose the box or basket, keeping in mind the likes of the recipient. For a grown up individual, you might choose a larger wicker basket or a themed basket. For a child, you might like to take a basket that can carry toy cars (for a boy), or simply select a beautiful purse with a colorful pattern (for a girl).


2. Next come the items given as the gift. The gift box essentially contains two types of items: the actual gift, and dainties. The gift varies according to the recipient' s personal taste. For instance, a choice movie, book, antique piece, perfume, jewelry would word as the main gift, while dainties include cookies, candies, crackers, and other snacks. Remember not to overload the box with lots of dainties.


3. The personal gift, which is (and should be) the heaviest item, is to rest in the basket' s center. Arrange the dainties around the gift, separated by a layer to tissue. If the dainties are rolling over, use a bit of tape to keep them in place.


4. Tie colorful straps or tassels around the basket, especially at the top to give the basket a fancy look.


5. Suiting the occasion, tie a small greeting card to one of the stripes. You might place the card, facing upward, above the basket' s flat upper surface. Place a rectangular or square transparent sheet over the card and stick it with thin transparent tape all around the corners.
