Whether you' re looking to buy something new, used or even collectible, there are several online musical instrument auctions to choose from, and there are great deals out there if you know where to look.
Before you start visiting and bidding at online musical instrument auctions, you may want to pick up a copy of the online musical instrument auction price guide. It' s available through Amazon.com for $24.95 and a few brick and mortar stores for around $40, but it can save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
Probably the most popular online musical instrument auctions can be found on eBay. While most eBay sellers are honest, they may not understand what they' re selling. For example they have heard that some instruments bought by their parents in the 1960s are worth a lot of money. They know little about the instrument and think that even though it can' t be played or repaired it should still be valuable.
Others are really re-sellers, buying from a wholesaler who drop-ships the merchandise for the seller. While the seller pays a wholesale price, once they tack on their seller fees and other charges, then add in a desired profit, they are selling at near retail and you can probably get the same instrument at near the same price at your local music store.
Several Sites for New Instrument Auctions
Auctions: Overstock.com is another place for online musical instrument auctions. Most of their items will be new, but the prices are generally competitive just as they are as they are on Worldmusicweb.com. Both sites will offer brand name products at a decent price so even with the additional shipping charges the price remains reasonable.
For higher end instruments and truly collectible items, visit the online musical instrument auctions going on at Christie.com and Classicalusa.com. You are going to pay for the quality of the instrument you get but quality is the idea at these sites. Since Christie' s is in England, you would have to travel there or bid by proxy if you don' t take advantage of its online musical instrument auctions.
Another often overlooked site for online musical instrument auctions is the police and sheriff' s departments. Evictions, estate auctions, abandoned storage buildings and even domestic disputes can yield some pretty interesting items and musical instruments are sometimes among them. You can also find some great buys on accessories for the instruments as well.
